Tourism in Ghana is on the up and the foreigners are bringing in much-needed hard currency. Elmina Castle – the notorious former slave holding fort – is now a destination for daytrippers.

Plans to triple tourism have been agreed between the government and its donors – the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

But the tourism authorities and jobless young people have clashed. Youths have been going to the castle to try to make money from the tourists. The authorities worry they will scare off visitors. Issac Tetteh went to hear both sides of the story.
